Our founder, Tristan Lewis, is from the oldest continuously inhabited city in Jamaica called Spanish Town situated in the parish of St. Catherine. He describes himself as a lover of business since Primary School days, where he would assist his grandmother at the Coronation Market after his shift ended at school. This experience sparked a whole different feeling as he now understood what it was like “to be earning one’s own money”.
Mr. Lewis pursued business subjects in High School, up to the 6th form, and went straight into business after encountering difficulties getting a Student Loan for college.
How It All Started
Lewis had a very unfortunate encounter in the parish of Clarendon at around 3 a.m. in 2008, where he met in an accident due to poor lighting on the vehicle he was driving. This tragedy led him to research lighting where he discovered there was a niche in the automotive market. Lighting became Lewis’ superpower ingredient which boosted his journey in the automotive industry. He imported his first HID (High Intensity Discharge) Kit and after his installation, he was so amazed by the output, he fell in love and started studying the technology. At this juncture, he realized that this was the way to go and went from five (5) to ten (10) kits as a “trunk back business”, so to speak. Although his mind wasn’t there, he was limited to his financial position at the time. He always wanted to do better, not only monetarily, but also offer better products to his customers. This took him to another level where he felt the need to develop his own brand because “off the shelf” purchases were not giving him the quality he required. Lewis took it a step further and travelled to the factories, spoke to the manufacturers in person, expressed his ideas and to his surprise they were willing to work with him. However, he encountered, yet again, another roadblock, as they wanted a minimum order quantity. This meant he had to order at least 5,000 (Five Thousand) kits, which was not easy. He reached out to family and friends, borrowed what he could until he managed to get sufficient capital for the requisite kits.
His small business encountered failures here and there, as is with any startup company, but that never derailed him.
